Calling 13-18 year olds in Newham! Want to get your voice heard on local issues, improve your skills and confidence and get the know-how for a career in the creative and cultural industries? Want to be a decision maker on culture and events in your local area, meet new people and get paid for it?

If so, we need you! Apply to join the established Creative Newham Youth Board and you’ll get real influence over events and projects in Newham, plus free training to help you develop your skills for the creative job market.

You don’t need experience: just passion! You’ll be paid for sharing your views and experience. We’ll also pay for your travel expenses to any meetings and events, as well as providing pizza!

Over the course of a year you’ll be introduced to areas like creative careers, cultural programming and events management. You’ll be asked to advise on projects that support people your age with creative opportunities.

What do current youth board members say?

I feel super lucky to have been given this chance to impact lives.

It was really nice getting my voice heard and supporting each other’s ideas.

It’s fun and a good way to try new things in your spare time.

It’s a good way to develop skills like decision-making, event planning, design, creativity and interviewing.

Some of the activities the Youth Board have been involved with include:

  • Giving their views on a new creative space in Newham and a COVID memorial in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
  • Learning 3D design skills and designing furniture to go into production
  • Designing an art studio exhibition space
  • Visiting local galleries and hearing about how to get into the arts from the people that already work in the sector
  • Designing a Youth Board logo and the recruitment process for new members
  • Giving their views on local arts programming ideas
  • Feeding into safeguarding policies
  • Judging and selecting real events for young audiences to take place in Newham Heritage Month – see a blog about it here

What will I need to do?

Come to a meeting at Rosetta Arts about 4-6 times a year. You’ll be paid the National Minimum Wage for your age group for every meeting you attend.
