One of Rosetta’s Artist Accelerator programme artists has been commissioned to deliver a workshop at the Barbican looking at themes from one of their major recent exhibitions.
Visual artist and illustrator Ada Jusic, from our programme that supports talented socially engaged practitioners in East London, ran the workshop as part of a series by Accumulate, the art school for the homeless.
The session began with an exploration of the Toyin Ojih Odutola: A Countervailing Theory exhibition. Ada then encouraged the group to create their own alternative realities, exploring utopias, dystopias and life on other planets and different points in time. Participants spent time creating their own worlds, which they presented to the rest of the group at the end of the session.
“The participants came up with some really interesting and heartfelt responses to the task and I was really happy by how well everyone engaged with the subject and the creativity and the use of symbolism and personal experiences in their work,” Ada said.
The Rosetta Artist Accelerator scheme is funded by Get Living and the Foundation for Future London and sees selected artists provided with opportunities and networks to help take their community practice to the next level.
