Gandhi Chaplin Memorial Garden Mosaic

February 2015 – May 2015

Commissioned by Groundworks London, four mosaics panels created by Newham based artist and musician Alan Read were installed in the Gandhi Chaplin Memorial Garden in Canning Town. The Garden is the culmination of a community project on a disused piece of land between Chandler Avenue and Hayday Road.

Alan worked with students from Rokeby school to design an artwork which was used as inspiration for the final mosaic design that illustrates a little known story of the time when Mahatma Gandhi and Charlie Chaplin met when visiting east London.
