Rosetta Arts appoints Jan De Schynkel as new CEO
Rosetta Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Jan De Schynkel as its new CEO. Jan joins Rosetta Arts from his role as Arts and Culture Manager at Ealing Council where he covered heritage, festivals & events, creative and digital industries.
Jan brings with him a passion for cultural democracy and empowering local communities, and his core values of equity, justice and kindness align well with Rosetta Arts’ mission and aims. Jan’s experience in Ealing in setting up a Cultural Education Partnership, a borough-wide arts and culture network, and in developing a Cultural Manifesto and Action Plan in collaboration with the creative sector and wonderfully diverse communities will be of great value to Rosetta Arts and its members.
Jan De Schynkel comments:
“Standing on the shoulders of founder Yvonne Humble, and the brilliant outgoing CEO, Sanaz Amidi, I am excited and humbled to pick up the baton as Rosetta Arts’ new CEO; to work with the Board and team and continue the collaborative community focus for those who have little access to the rich and transformative benefits of the arts and education. I particularly look forward to further expanding the focus on creative wellbeing, environmental responsibility, the creative skills/jobs pipeline, and to supporting localised economic growth and pride in neighbourhoods.”
Our Chairman, David Forrester says “Rosetta Arts is thrilled to welcome Jan as its new CEO.. We are confident that under Jan’s leadership, Rosetta will continue to grow and provide even more transformative opportunities to the community.”
Tonya Nelson, London Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “This is an exciting appointment for Rosetta Arts and one that will build on the strong leadership from outgoing CEO Sanaz Amidi. Jan has a wealth of experience in the cultural sector and I am confident that under his stewardship Rosetta Arts will go from strength to strength over the coming years – ensuring that local communities can continue to access inspirational and empowering creative workshops and experiences.”
We cannot express our thanks enough for the way Sanaz Amidi has led Rosetta for sixteen years. As CEO she has taken a small art education body and turned it into a more broadly based charity dedicated to serving Newham and beyond. Under her inspirational leadership, Rosetta Arts has transformed the lives of many who had previously little access to the arts. She has led the successful expansion of Rosetta Arts in 2018 as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, which doubled its investment in the 2023 funding round. She has established invaluable partnerships and laid the basis for Rosetta to celebrate its 30th anniversary later this year and face the future with confidence. We wish her the very best of luck in her next endeavours.
