Newham Heritage Month is a month long festival taking place from Friday 1st May to Sunday 31st May 2020. It will be delivered across the borough’s eight Community Neighbourhoods areas under the theme ‘Making a Home in Newham’.

A newly put together Young Creative Newham Board will begin by focusing on a major producing programme for Newham Heritage Month in which they will select and market cultural events specifically for young audiences. They will have the exciting opportunity of having a substantial budget to select and commission the events, which are funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

They want to commission Creative Newham partners who would like to be involved in delivering programming across the borough that engages young people both as participants and audiences.

We want to see:

Performance, art, film, poetry slams, gigs, live arts, outdoor arts, dance, spoken word, poetry, storytelling, arts and crafts, visual arts, journalism, and debating ideas. Everything must have a connection to the theme ‘Making a Home in Newham’ and be for young people.

We want to hear about:

  • Proposals from artists, groups or organisations whose practice is based on interactive public participation, co-creation and/or engagement across different sections of the community.
  • One-off performances, exhibitions that last through the month long celebration, workshops and/or showcase events.

Please note:

  • Commissions must be inclusive of and accessible to Newham’s young communities and take place in the borough.
  • If you are proposing a venue that is not fully accessible, you must contact us to discuss this before applying.
  • Commissions must take place between Friday 1st May to Sunday 31st May 2020.
  • We particularly want to hear from Creative Newham partners.

Fee:

Commissions will be awarded between £500 and £1,500, according to need and in line with submission guidelines.
