Rosetta Arts CEO Sanaz Amidi attended the Royal visit at the University of East London Stratford Campus on Wednesday 8 February. Attendees were delighted to welcome His Majesty, King Charles III and the Queen Consort to the university to commemorate its 125th anniversary year.
Sanaz Amidi was invited to this event to represent Rosetta Arts as a key local partner for UEL. In the early years from 1993 of Rosetta Arts opening it worked with UEL on initiatives to bring down barriers for local residents to access higher education art courses. From there, the partnership has thrived and includes integral work with young disabled artists and residents in Newham. This year UEL’s The RIX Centre, Living Maps & Rosetta’s Art Superstars Programme are bringing artists and technologists together to improve the experiences of disabled children in creative learning enrichment programmes.
UEL is a Steering Group Member of Creative Newham, of which Rosetta’s CEO Sanaz Amidi is the Chair. Creative Newham is an independent alliance of arts, cultural, educational, social and voluntary organisations committed to growing and strengthening cultural mobility in all its forms in Newham.
His Majesty the King spoke with Sanaz Amidi about their 30 year partnership with UEL and toured the new Royal Hospital & Primary Care Training Hub, an educational centre that demonstrates cutting-edge technologies and enhances the learning of University of East London students to tackle health inequalities. The Training Hub is Europe’s first end-to-end healthcare education facility that includes a mock A&E department, an ambulance, a general ward, an intensive care unit, and a flat designed to imitate an at-home social care environment.
Sanaz Amidi commented:
I felt so privileged to attend such a significant moment in University of East London’s history, especially because Rosetta Arts value working with UEL so highly. It was an honour to meet His Majesty the King and visit the new Royal Hospital & Primary Care Training Hub. It’s really exciting to see such progressive and promising educational hubs open in East London. It feels very fitting that an institution founded as the ‘people’s university’ is making such remarkable strides in sustainability, inclusivity and care provision.”
His Majesty was also shown the University’s work in sustainability, which includes supporting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
His Majesty’s visit was followed by a celebratory lunch in The Dome, University House and A Festival of art, light colour and movement at the Docklands Campus to mark the occasion.
