Last week was Refugee Week, a time to recognise the contributions of refugees and asylum seekers to our communities. At Rosetta Arts, we are dedicated to supporting and empowering refugees and asylum seekers in Newham, working closely with local agencies and the council to provide creative opportunities and resources to help them build new lives, friendships and skills in our community.
We believe that creative projects have the power to break down barriers and bring people together. That’s why we offer a range of inclusive workshops and classes that are open to everyone, including those who may have experienced trauma or displacement. This beautiful embroidery is part of our Decolonising Fashion project, open to Refugees and asylum seekers based in East London, 18-60 years old. The project aims to develop a framework for decolonised design practice by advancing a cultural sustainability agenda within a fashion and textile industry context. The team will work together with refugee communities based in East London to scope the research in relation to their reality and lived experience of resilience and inform a process of reciprocal learning and making, through textile heritage.
Last week, this week, next week, and beyond, we want to celebrate the strength and resilience of refugees and asylum seekers in Newham. Join us in recognising their contributions and supporting their journeys towards success.
