What’s on at Rosetta Arts this June

Summer is well and truly here and this June there’s loads of cultural programming in Newham to accompany the sunshine! We’re collaborating with Paint the Change, Newham Heritage Month and more to bring you some fantastic creative opportunities this month, read below and get involved!

 

June 10 | Chinese Silk Painting Workshop

This is one of a series of five workshops where we will be exploring the basic technique of silk painting. You will create artwork which will be made into a large tapestry, and then be exhibited at Custom House Library. Click here to learn more & sign up.

 

June 10 & 17 | Mirrors & Mosaics Workshop

In this workshop you will create your own mirrored mosaics to help us and Emergency Exit Arts to decorate Green Street for Eid al-Adha in years to come! Running from 2-4pm at Green Street Library. Learn more here, if you have any enquiries contact trisha@rosettaarts.org.

 

June 13, 20, 27 | Mosaic Design & Gardening Workshop

Join this free 3 week mosaic design and gardening workshop where you will crate a community mosaic planted and learn urban gardening techniques. Contact katherine.roadcentre@newhamgov.uk to book a place.

 

June 13 & 16 | Mirrors & Mosaics Workshop

June 17 | Newham Heritage Month Patchwork Workshop

This is one of a series of five workshops where we will be exploring the history and origins of the Pearly Kings and Queens. In this workshop you will be creating a large tapestry from the pieces of Chinese Silk work, Ghanian Kente Clothe, Indian Batik and pieces inspired from the Pearly Kings and Queens. This tapestry will then displayed as a roaming exhibition across Newham. This event is sold out.

 

June 20 | ‘The One I Admire’ Portrait Workshop

The second round of ‘The One I Admire’ portrait competition is coming up! In this free drawing workshop, you’ll be able to create a portrait of your role model, write a few sentences about the subject, and participate in the competition! Click here to learn more & sign up.

 

June 22| Windrush Day Workshop, exploring the work of Sir Frank Bowling

In this free workshop you will get an opportunity to learn about Frank Bowling’s life and accomplishments, artist and poet, Claudette Purville will then show you how to create a painting inspired by his work. To attend email trisha@rosettaarts.org.

 

June 24 | ‘The One I Admire’ Portrait Workshop

The second round of ‘The One I Admire’ portrait competition is coming up! In this free painting workshop, you’ll be able to create a portrait of your role model, write a few sentences about the subject, and participate in the competition! Click here to learn more & sign up.

 

June 24 – July 15 | ‘Creative Heritage through Textile’ Exhibition

At Custom House Library, there will be an exhibition of the work created with Newham’s communities through our “Creative Heritage through Textile Design” workshop series on display for three weeks. This exhibition is the final result of a workshop series exploring the techniques and history behind the vibrant cultural contributions brought over to London on 19th Century Cargo ships. Feel free to visit the exhibition for free at Custom House Library anytime over the 3 weeks.

 

June 27 | Mirrors & Mosaics Workshop
