Unveiling Alexander McQueen’s blue plaque

We are delighted to share that on Saturday the 1st we unveiled Alexander McQueen’s blue plaque. This significant occasion celebrated the legendary fashion designer’s time at Rosetta Arts, where he honed his skills under the guidance of our founder, Yvonne Humble.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by members of McQueen’s family, as well as a the public and press.

Reflecting on McQueen’s early days at Rosetta Arts, Yvonne Humble fondly remembers the moment he crossed paths with her:

“Lee, as he wanted to be called, came to me as an evening student when he was learning tailoring in Saville Row. His first words were not just to be an everyday student, but to tell me he wanted to be a great designer of clothes.”

We are immensely proud to have been a part of Alexander McQueen’s journey, and the unveiling of his blue plaque serves as a poignant reminder of his transformative time at Rosetta Arts, and as a resident of Newham. As we continue to empower emerging artists and creators, we draw inspiration from McQueen’s extraordinary legacy and are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talented individuals, helping them realise their own creative dreams.
