Urban Gardening
April 2025 – April 2026
Urban Gardening is our flagship centred around nature and wellbeing, delivered through a blend of gardening and creative arts activities - designed to be inclusive and intergenerational, engaging people of all ages in the Royal Docks area. Managed by our Community Producer Solmaz Kennedy. Urban Gardening aims to foster a deeper connection to nature, strengthen ties within the local community, and nurture a lasting sense of belonging and legacy for residents of the borough.

“This is so therapeutic, I love coming here… I don’t want to go home until I finish my piece.”
Josephine, UG Participant, 2024

At Rosetta Arts, our mission is to create a lasting and positive impact on communities through the power of creativity. Our ongoing Urban Gardening project brings together nature, art, and sustainability, designed for, by and with the community.
The project engages a diverse, intergenerational audience in shaping a community-led initiative. It nurtures personal passions, builds social and emotional confidence, improves well-being and strengthens connections between residents. By addressing loneliness and creating a sense of shared legacy, we are working towards a community garden where locals can enjoy relaxing walks and have access to a small food resource.
Aims of the Project
- To use creativity, gardening and nature-based activities to create lasting, positive social impact within the local community.
- To design and deliver a community-led urban gardening project that is shaped for, by and with local residents.
- To engage a diverse, intergenerational audience, encouraging meaningful connections between children, adults and older people.
- To improve participants’ wellbeing, social confidence and emotional resilience through creative and outdoor activities.
To address loneliness and isolation by creating welcoming shared spaces and opportunities for regular social interaction.
To build a sense of shared ownership and legacy through the development of a community garden.
To provide access to a small, sustainable food resource that supports healthier lifestyles and environmental awareness.
To strengthen partnerships with local organisations, including St Luke’s Primary School and St Luke’s Community Centre, expanding access to gardening and nature-based arts activities.
Impact of the Project
Our program is designed to nurture both the mind and body, offering participants a path to improved mental health and wellbeing. Through regular engagement with nature, creative expression, and gentle physical activity, children and adults alike will build lasting confidence and emotional resilience. By learning practical skills in gardening and sustainability, you’ll not only cultivate a healthier lifestyle but also gain the tools to advocate for our local environment
Beyond the garden beds, this project is about stitching the community back together. We bridge the gap between generations, bringing neighbors of all ages into inclusive spaces to reduce isolation and foster a deep sense of belonging. Through our strong local partnerships, including St Luke’s Primary School and Community Centre, we are creating more than just a garden—we are building a visible, long-term legacy that residents can take pride in for years to come.
