Course overview

Artist Soo Hyun Lee leads a five-week oil painting course at Rosetta Arts in Newham, East London. The course is for beginners. You start with the fundamentals and finish with a completed painting. You stretch and prepare your own canvas, learn core oil painting techniques, and work towards a final project: a plant study or a landscape. Each session builds on the last, through sketching, blocking in base colours, and adding large and fine detail. No experience is needed.

About the tutor

Soo Hyun Lee is a London-based visual artist who works with painting, video installation and performance. She graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London with an MFA in Fine Art in 2024, and holds a BFA from Korea University, Seoul. See her work on Instagram: @todayisoohyun.

Who it's for

Beginners. No prior experience is needed. The course is for adults aged 18 and over. It is non-accredited.

Mondays, 6:30–8:30pm, for five weeks:
6 July, 13 July, 20 July, 27 July and 3 August 2026.

Pricing

Full fee: £110.

Location

Rosetta Arts, 1 Hamilton Road, London E15 3AE, in Newham, East London. Sessions are held in the ground-floor artist studio, which is wheelchair accessible.

Refund & Cancellation Policy
All course and workshop registrations are final. Please note the following conditions:
  • General Policy: We do not offer refunds once a purchase is completed.
  • Accidental Purchases: Refunds are only available for accidental enrollments reported within 48 hours of purchase subject to a processing fee. 
  • Late Requests: No refunds will be issued if the request is made within 14 days of the course start date (e.g., if a course begins on April 14th, the final day for an eligible accidental refund would be March 31st).
  • Once a course or workshop has begun, no refunds or credits will be issued under any circumstances, regardless of attendance or the date of enrollment.
Payment Of Fees
Course fees must be paid at the time of enrolment to secure your place. You can pay online by credit/debit card.

Acceptable Evidence for Possible Fee Reduction
At Rosetta Arts, we aim to make our courses accessible to everyone. We offer reduced fees for individuals receiving certain benefits or those on a low income.

In your email, you must include photographic evidence of your eligibility. All evidence must be dated within the last 3 months to be valid.
