Join us at Rosetta’s sunny community garden for a 3 week course in cyanotype printing!
Our Sunny Cyanotype course provides a weekly space led by artist Sarah Garrod to learn and experiment with cyanotype printing techniques using a variety of objects and natural materials out in the sunshine.
All materials will be provided, so come along and explore this gorgeous art form in a warm and welcoming community space.
Course Overview
Week 1: Introduction to Cyanotype
Learn about the historic photographic process of cyanotype and create your first prints.
Topics covered:
The history and process of cyanotype
Mixing cyanotype chemicals and coating paper
Exploring different paper types
Testing exposure times to control contrast and density
Creating test strips
Making photograms
Week 2: Developing Your Practice
Build on your cyanotype skills through further experimentation and printing techniques.
Topics covered:
Creating photograms with plants and objects
Layering and multiple-exposure techniques
Different methods for making photographic negatives for cyanotype
Printing with basic negatives
Introduction to UV lamps
Week 3: Toning, Colour & Preservation
Explore ways to alter and enhance cyanotype prints, and learn how to care for finished work.
Topics covered:
Making botanical toning baths and observing colour changes
Toning prints created during Weeks 1 and 2
Bleaching techniques
Creating an anthotype using pure plant emulsion
Archival considerations, including framing and storage
All experiences welcome - from complete beginners to more experienced makers!
Please note there is limited space available on this course, and we operate on a first come, first serve basis.

All sessions will be from 12.30pm - 3.30pm. They will start off in a workshop room on the ground floor of the centre, and continue in the garden. All spaces are wheelchair-accessible.
